A few great Grizzlies moments around the corner
The schedule for the 2026-27 NBA season dropped a week ago, and while we did a whole show about it on Grind City Media, I haven’t had a chance here in the vaunted Grind City Media newsletter to talk about it. So, here are my five favorite home games/stretches on the upcoming Grizzlies schedule, in no particular order. (And remember, single-game tickets go on sale on 9/01!
Opening Night
October 21 vs. Utah
I don’t think it even matters who we’re playing, does it? Since the end of last season, we’ve all been waiting for the Grizzlies to return. And about two months from now, the Grizzlies will finally return to regular season action, with the added bonus of the game being a homecoming for former Grizzlies Jaren Jackson Jr. and John Konchar. I’m also very curious to see how second overall draft pick Darryn Peterson works out for the Jazz—he had some spectacular flashes last season at Kansas, but lacked the consistency I was hoping to see.
Big Home Stretch
Februrary 3, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 18
I’ve been around the NBA for a while, but I can’t ever remember seeing a team be blessed with an 8-game homestand. During this stretch in February, the Grizzlies host teams like Portland, Orlando and Philadelphia, plus have a back-to-back against last year’s finalists, the Knicks and Spurs. The Grizzlies will get to be at home for 17 straight days, which should tell us a lot about this team’s chances, if we haven’t figured it out already.
The Last Stop?
December 14 vs. Golden State
I have no idea what the future holds for the Golden State Warriors. Can Steph Curry continue producing at a high level even as he approaches 39 years old? Will Jimmy Butler be able to contribute this season? Will this be Draymond Green’s final season in Golden State? All around, it seems like the Warriors dynasty might be reaching some sort of farewell. This is their final game this season in Memphis.
Big Names
March 25 vs. Chicago
April 7 vs. Washington
I really enjoyed watching third overall pick Cameron Boozer in summer league action—his ability to seamlessly fit in with the Grizzlies has made me giddy for his future. And while we’ll get a look at Darryn Peterson earlier in the season, these two games bring picks 1 (AJ Dybantsa) and 4 (Caleb Wilson) to town.
Sunday Fun Days
November 3 vs. Lakers
December 30 vs. Phoenix
January 10 vs. Dallas
I love being able to bring my son to Grizzlies games, but it’s tough on school nights when he’s loaded down with homework, and he’s getting to the age where I barely see him on weekends. That is, except for Sunday afternoons—that seems to be the time the whole family is home, hanging out, resting up for the week ahead. This season, the Grizzlies have three Sunday afternoon home games, which I’m circling as chances to bring the entire fam out for a game.
Odds and Ends…
- I was poking around in a back room at FedExForum the other day when I stumbled on a group of fellow employees sorting items for this Saturday’s Grizzlies Garage Sale. There’s usually a ton of worthwhile stuff at this event, from sneakers to posters to furniture. And all the proceeds will benefit local education and mentoring programs. Come through!
- New football uniforms this season for Tennessee. I like them, except for the white pants…
