Despite repeated requests by Commissioner Adam Silver for the 2024 NBA All-Stars to take the events seriously there was a clear lack of effort and motivation by players from both the Eastern and Western Conferences.
Chris Vernon argues that the best NBA events are the events that the players deeply care about because when they care, fans will care as well. This year’s In Season Tournament was able to generate huge levels of success because players and teams bought in and brought their fans with them. As Silver and the league negotiate a new TV deal, they need to find a way to bring genuine player motivation back to All Star Weekend or the product will lose its value.
